Some benefits of having your negatives scanned
It is difficult to tell what is on a negative, so making use of our negative scanning service provides you with a quick and easy way to see what memories you might have forgotten you had.
Many older negatives are not looked at from one year to the next but, having a digital copy available enables you to display the images in a photo book, computer screensaver or digital photo frame. You could even have a favourite memory printed to stretched canvas prints, mobile phone cases, cushions, mugs or shopping bags.
Digital images can quickly be shared with family and friends by ordering an extra disc, or online.
With so many people interested nowadays in their family history, notes could be made regarding the people in the negatives or where they were taken so that this information is not lost to future generations.
Placing an order
If you have a pretty good idea of how many negatives you wish to have scanned, the best way to place an order would be to select your level of negative-scanning service above and click, 'Order now'. If you order this way, you'll be able to pay up front by debit/credit card, whenever you wish. There's no need to wait until we're open for the day.
If you have a large collection of negatives you would like scanning, and don't want to count them all, just give PiciScan a call on (01539) 741418, or email us and we can arrange everything for you. Once all your negatives have been scanned, we'll prepare an invoice and you can pay by debit/credit card over the phone. Or, if you like, you can pay by direct transfer using telephone or internet banking.
Getting your negatives to us
The safety and security of your memories is our topmost priority. For this reason, we recommend our Home Collection Service as the safest way of getting your negatives to us. The service costs just £17.99, or is FREE when the cost of your order, before this charge is applied, is more than £100.
If you'd prefer to send your negatives yourself, then we would recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery.
Alternatively, if you live close by, you can pop your negatives to be scanned into PiciScan yourself. You'd be most welcome! Just ring first to make certain that someone is going to be here at the time you visit.
How your negatives will be scanned
To make sure your negatives are safe and scanned to the best quality, at PiciScan, we only use Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanners to scan your negatives. The video above demonstrates how we use them to scan your negatives. Your negatives are gently held on a flat surface, and never come into contact with any moving parts, meaning they can never jam inside a machine. Having your negatives scanned on a flatbed scanner is the safest possible way to have your negatives digitised.
To ensure you see as much of your memories as possible, we scan an area larger than the image on the negative itself. These larger scans are then cropped and properly rotated, before being colour corrected and finally copied to a personalised disc.
How your scanned negatives will be labelled
Your negative-scans will normally be labelled consecutively, from '0001' onwards. If you would like your negative-scans to be labelled starting from a different number, to fit your own archiving system for example, just let us know. For a small extra cost, you can also have your negative-scans labelled individually.
Have each negative scan labelled with non-consecutive numbers for just 25p each. Or, have us label each negative-scan with the title of your choice for just 99p per negative-scan. Should you require this service, just let us know at the time of your order and we will send you across an invoice when the re-labelling is complete.
You may wish to have your negatives scanned into different folders onto the disc. Perhaps you have a large number of negatives and wish for them to be scanned into seperate named folders for each year that they were taken? No problem. Provided that there are at least 24 negatives to go in each folder, there will be no extra charge. Any smaller groupings will be charged at 25p per folder label, and we will simply invoice you on completion of your order.
How your negatives and disc will be returned to you
Once your negatives have all been scanned and your disc(s) prepared, we will contact you by email to let you know that your order is ready for return delivery. Return delivery to the UK is free on all negative scanning orders and is via APC, a secure courier service. Because orders will normally have to be signed for, we will only return your scanned negatives and discs after first finding out from you when a convenient day would be.
Alternatively, you may wish for your negatives and disc delivered to you by Royal Mail Special Delivery. Prices for this service start at £10.80.
Limitations of service
Our negative scanning service is brilliant at rescuing old, forgotten memories and returning faded colours to ancient negatives. But sadly, even we can't rescue an out of focus image, or correct blur caused by camera shake. What we can do, is provide you with the best results with the image that is present.
Problems with your negative scans?
It is our aim that you should be completely satisfied with your negative scanning order. In the event that we have fallen below the high standard of service you would expect from PiciScan, just let us know and we will see what we can do. There may be things we can do to fix the problems without your having to return the negatives for re-scanning as we will keep your scans on our system for two months after returning your negatives to you. Failing that there is always the backup of your order which will be available indefinitely.
Should you have to return your negatives for re-scanning we will re-imburse you the cost of sending them to us. We will also carry out most work, and return your negatives and new disc completely free. Please see our Returns Policy for more information.
