World Heritage Status For The Lake District

World Heritage Status For The Lake District

Posted on: Friday, 16 October 2015

It has been great to work with the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) to help them in their bid to have the Lake District inscribed as World Heritage Status.

Organisations both national and local have been working together for the common cause of making the Lake District a world heritage site, under the category of cultural landscape. Industry, farming and conservation have all helped to shape the spectacular landscape of the Lake District and the land itself has inspired poets and artists alike, from the romantics of the 18th century to the 19th century conservationists.

The photographs that we have been working on collectively show just what the Lake District has to offer, ranging from the historically unique Pele Towers that date from the times of the Border Reivers, Hardknott Roman fort in Eskdale, the stone-circle Long Meg and her Daughters and many historic houses and villas overlooking Windermere and other lakes. There have been stunning examples of Prehistoric Cup and Ring marked rocks as well as the world famous Langdale Axe Factory – one of the first ever factories. The axes made by Neolithic people have been found across Europe as well as throughout the United Kingdom.

The work that we undertook for the LDNPA here at PiciScan involved cleaning, scanning the 35mm slides sent to us and then editing the images, all done to an exceptionally high standard, as with any photos sent to us, no matter how big or small the order.

Callum currently lives in Kendal and enjoys technology and the outdoors in equal measures.

Box Sizing: Border-Box

Posted: 24 March 2016

I first came across box-sizing: border-box when it cropped up in a temporary colleague's CSS. I found it pretty annoying when I picked up work that he'd started as it seemed to get in the way. This was because, as I said in a previous post on margin ...
